TURA, May 31: The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has come under fire for an embarrassing clerical error at the famous Wari Chora tourist site in South Garo Hills, where the destination’s name was misspelled as ‘Wari Chori’ on an official inaugural stone.
The error was noticed following the inauguration of the ‘Forest Walkway and Tourist Convenience’ facility on May 23. The project was formally opened by GHADC CEM Dhormonath Sangma in the presence of several MDCs and council officials.
The Chokpot unit of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has strongly condemned the oversight and demanded immediate rectification.
“A famous site like Wari Chora is being portrayed to the world with the wrong name. This is unacceptable and the concerned authorities must immediately rectify the error,” GSU president Jish A. Sangma stated.
It may be mentioned that Wari Chora has emerged as a major tourism hub in recent years, attracting visitors from across the country. While the new infrastructure developed by the GHADC is expected to improve accessibility to the river canyon, the misspelling on the commemorative plaque has drawn widespread ridicule.
