SHILLONG, June 4: The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress (MPMC) on Thursday staged a protest against the rising prices of petrol and diesel, stating that high fuel costs are placing an unbearable financial burden on the common people.
Led by president Joplyn Scott Shylla, members of the organisation expressed concern over the cascading effect of fuel hikes, which have led to increased transportation costs and higher prices for essential commodities.
Shylla argued that the burden is being borne disproportionately by daily wage earners, farmers, and low-income families already struggling with the rising cost of living. “The continuous hike in petrol and diesel prices is affecting every household. The impact is visible in the rising prices of essential goods, making life increasingly difficult for the common man,” Shylla stated.
The MPMC criticised the government for failing to provide relief to consumers and demanded immediate intervention to curb prices. The protesters urged the government to adopt measures to ease the financial strain on vulnerable sections of society, reaffirming their commitment to opposing policies that adversely impact the poor.
