SHILLONG, June 9: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has petitioned Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to address the prolonged delay in disbursing the Chief Minister’s Scholarship for the 2025 academic year, alleging that many students have been waiting for over a year.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, KSU education secretary Alerick Kharjana stated that the union has received numerous complaints from students who are yet to receive financial assistance despite meeting all eligibility criteria and completing the verification process.
The KSU highlighted that the delay is causing severe hardship for students from economically weaker sections who rely on the scholarship for tuition fees, books, and hostel expenses. The union warned that the situation has led to academic disruption and a loss of trust in the administrative system.
The union urged the government to release the pending funds immediately and requested the publication of a clear disbursement timeline.
It also suggested establishing a grievance helpline to assist affected students.
Terming the scholarship a vital support for meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds, the KSU called on the government to act expeditiously to safeguard the interests of the student community.
