SHILLONG, July 6: A male nurse from Rajasthan posted at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) has been accused of molesting a minor girl.
The incident allegedly took place on July 4, when the nurse touched the girl — who is below 18 years of age — inappropriately while she was in the hospital. The family subsequently lodged an FIR at the Mawdiangdiang Police Outpost.
This has now prompted the KSU Shillong Mihngi Circle to demand the immediate arrest of the accused.
A delegation of the KSU, led by its assistant organising secretary Samuel Kharbani, met the Medical Superintendent of NEIGRIHMS on Monday to seek clarification and press for action.
“We got a complaint from the family of a girl below 18 years of age saying the nurse had touched her inappropriately when she was in the hospital,” Kharbani told reporters after the meeting.
Kharbani expressed strong concern over the alleged delay in arresting the accused despite the gravity of the charges involving a minor.
The Medical Superintendent informed the delegation that the matter is currently under police investigation and that the institute would await the outcome of the inquiry.
He however urged the police to treat the case with utmost seriousness and ensure swift action, considering that the alleged victim is a minor.
