China asks US not to support Tibetan independence

BEIJING, July 9: China on Thursday urged the US to honour its commitment to recognise Tibet as part of China and not to support Tibetan independence. The US State Department said in a statement on Wednesday that it supports the aspirations of Tibetans to preserve their culture and called on China to return to dialogue with the Dalai Lama. Reacting to the US statement, China’s Foreign Ministry said that all Tibet-related issues are China’s “internal affairs”. China calls Tibet as Xizang. “Xizang-related affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and no country has the right to make interference,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a media briefing here while responding to a question on the US statement on Thursday. “We urge the US to honour its commitment that it recognises Xizang is part of China and does not support “Tibet independence,” and stop using Xizang-related issues to interfere in China’s internal affairs,” she added. Indian engineer charged in US for ‘killing’ wife

Washington, July 9: A 30-year-old Indian has been charged with murdering his wife over an alleged affair with another lady, almost nine months after her death at their home in the US’ Washington state. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Avinash Narne with one count of first-degree murder on July 1. Narne, who was arrested in June last week and remains in custody on USD five million bail, had “a secret romantic relationship with another woman” in India and also sent her photos of his wife’s dead body over WhatsApp. Prosecutors allege that Narne premeditated the strangulation and staged the crime scene before police arrived at their Bellevue home in Washington state. Police were informed that Narne and the victim had been married for only a few months through an arranged marriage when his wife was found dead in a locked bathroom. (PTI)
