Kitkupar Nongsiej creates history, qualifies for Grand Finale of WCOPA 2026 in Las Vegas

Meghalaya’s young singing sensation Kitkupar Nongsiej has created history by becoming the only contestant from India to qualify for the Grand Finale of the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Kitkupar secured his place in the prestigious final after an impressive performance in the semi-final held on July 18, with the results confirming his advancement to the championship round. Often referred to as the “Olympics of Performing Arts,” WCOPA features talented performers from over 60 countries competing in singing, dancing, acting, music, modelling and other performing arts disciplines. Only the highest-scoring contestants advance to the Grand Finale, where they compete for the coveted Grand Champion Performer of the World title.
Hailing from Kynshi village in Eastern West Khasi Hills district, Kitkupar has steadily impressed judges throughout the competition with his vocal ability, stage presence and confident performances while representing Team India.
His journey to the global stage began after winning Ka Sur Kynud Season 3, Meghalaya’s premier singing competition organised by the Don Bosco Media Network (DBMN). He later earned his place in Team India by successfully clearing the international online auditions for WCOPA. Before departing for the United States, Kitkupar received a warm send-off and a special prayer service at the Don Bosco Youth Centre (DBYC), Laitumkhrah, Shillong, attended by Church leaders, family members, well-wishers and media personnel, who prayed for his success. Speaking after qualifying for the Grand Finale, an emotional Kitkupar thanked Almighty God and everyone who had supported him throughout his journey.
“I thank Almighty God for His constant guidance and blessings. Qualifying for the Grand Finale of WCOPA is a dream come true and a proud moment not only for me but for Meghalaya and India. I am deeply grateful to my parents, my mentors, the Don Bosco Media Network, my supporters and everyone who has been praying for me,” he said.
Looking ahead to the final, Kitkupar said he would continue preparing with greater dedication and remain focused despite competing against some of the world’s finest performers.
“I will perform with confidence, humility and pride, carrying the hopes of my country. I humbly ask everyone to continue praying for me as I strive to make India and Meghalaya proud,” he added.
His achievement has sparked celebrations across Meghalaya, especially among music lovers, the Don Bosco community and his supporters, who have followed his inspiring journey from local competitions to one of the world’s biggest performing arts platforms.
Regardless of the final result, Kitkupar’s qualification has already been hailed as a landmark achievement for Meghalaya and the North East, highlighting the region’s growing talent on the international stage. The Grand Finale is scheduled to take place on July 20, with supporters across India and abroad cheering him on.
