SHILLONG, July 20: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the state government to file a detailed affidavit outlining the progress and roadmap for the proposed expansion of the Shillong Airport runway.
During the hearing on Monday, B. Bhushan, Joint Director of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), appearing through video conferencing, informed the bench comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh that the DGCA would process the execution-level permission as soon as it receives the necessary undertaking from the state government for the removal of all obstacles in the transitional and approach surface areas around the airport.
Advocate General Amit Kumar sought time to file the affidavit detailing how the runway expansion work would be carried out. The court granted the request and directed that the affidavit be filed before the next date of hearing, with copies served on all concerned parties.
The Advocate General also submitted that the state government would examine the issues raised in the affidavit filed by Amicus Curiae Phuyosa Yobin and apprise the court at the next hearing.
The High Court further directed the concerned officers of the DGCA and the state government to remain present, either physically or through video conferencing, on the next date of haring on July 23, 2026.
