NH-40 trouble

SHILLONG: The UDP is perturbed at the prevailing situation that persists along the Khliehriat-Jowai-Gauhati national highway, which is directly affecting the commuters and has already resulted in loss of lives.
“The government is yet to make any arrest and this has encouraged them (the trouble makers) to further take the law into their own hands,” UDP general secretary Allantry F Dkhar stated in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
He also questioned as to why the State Government has not instituted a CBI inquiry into the burning of public property and assault of government personnel.
“It’s a matter of grave concern. The government needs to answer and resolve the situation at the earliest. The truckers are victims of the mismanagement of those enforcing the law. Is there a nexus between those in government and transporters of coal that is hindering the enforcement of rule of law as reported in the media,” Dkhar said.
“It has also been reported that collections are being carried out by police personnel along the route in question, is the government aware of this,” he asked.
Even as Chief Minister Mukul Sangma batted for the coal miners in Delhi, UDP general secretary questioned as to who will take care of the people and the depleting environment of the State.
