SHILLONG: A day after the High Court of Meghalaya ordered the MPSC to keep in abeyance the appointment of four candidates to the Meghalaya Police Service (MPS), a senior police official on Friday claimed that police had no role in the matter as it was up to the MPSC to examine the same.
One of the candidates – Millon Momin – had approached the High Court alleging that four candidates who had secured fewer marks than him were included in the select list whereas he was not included in the list though he had scored a total of 874.
With controversy erupting over the appointment of candidates to the MPS following the examination conducted by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission, the officials from Meghalaya Police said that the police did not conduct the examinations and it was the MPSC which looks after the entire appointment process.
The Court after hearing the matter on Thursday ordered the MPSC to keep in abeyance the process of appointing the four candidates till the matter is disposed.
The judge TN Singh asked the Meghalaya Government to put on hold the appointment of four candidates or to keep one MPS post unfilled till the time the petition was disposed of.
The Court had also directed MPSC to produce the answer scripts of the four candidates before the court on the next hearing scheduled on March 11.
It may be mentioned that the MPSC had advertised the post of 34 MPS officers under Home (Police) department and 328 candidates were shortlisted for the examination.
