Half of state villages lack basic amenities, Prestone admits

SHILLONG: Community and Rural Development Minister Prestone Tynsong has admitted that not even half of the Meghalaya villages have access to basic amenities.
Speaking at the concluding event of the Special Outreach Programmes (SOPs) here recently, Tynsong said that out of the total 6,250 villages not even 50 per cent have access to the basic amenities.
“Let us try to reach out to the grassroot  level”, he said while appreciating the hard work of the officers and the staff in bringing out the much needed awareness programmes to the people of the remote villages.
The three-month long Special Outreach Programmes on Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana, Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao organized by the Directorate of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ended here recently.
Tynsong lauded the efforts of the Government in making the public aware of the various schemes to benefit the rural people.
