SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday asserted that the practice of road side stalls on pavements was against the law and punishable.
The Minister’s remark came while she was addressing a gathering during the launch of ‘cleaning our city’ campaign at Motphran here.
“We need the involvement of not only school children but also women folk and the youth at large in order to make the city clean,” she said.
Lyngdoh also lauded the sweepers for their dedicated service and urged the public to reciprocate by keeping the city clean.
The campaign launched under the slogan ‘Come and Join Hands in keeping our City Clean – Unity is Strength was initiated by North Shillong Welfare Development Society.
Home Minister and local legislator Roshan Warjri, who also addressed the gathering, highlighted the importance of cleanliness and its effects on the well being of people.
“The government will extend all support to the society in achieving their desired aims and objectives of cleanliness,” she added.
