Guwahati:Though some people have left Nagaland following the Dimapur lynching incident, there were no reports of exodus of people from the bordering state, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said here on Monday.
‘There is no report of exodus. We have learnt that some people are leaving Nagaland but not in very large numbers,’ Gogoi said. He added that some amount of panic usually sets in after an incident such as the Dimapur case and some people flee as a result.
‘But there is no exodus as of date. We have no such information,’ he added. The Assam chief minister had already written to his Nagaland counterpart to ensure safety and security of life and property of people of Assam residing in Nagaland. The state chief secretary was also in touch with his Nagaland counterpart.
Rape-accused Sayed Sarif Khan, hailing from Karimganj district of Assam, was dragged out by a 10,000 strong mob from the Dimapur central jail, paraded naked through the streets, lynched by the mob and his body tied behind a motorbike and dragged through Dimapur before sticking it up at the city centre on March 5 last.
