Ban on illegal killing of fishes

SHILLONG: The West Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting killing of fishes in all major rivers and streams within the district by illegal means and also banned all activities that might endanger the aquatic and human life.
The order is an attempt to prevent killing of fishes by way of poisoning or otherwise on the pretext of sports activities, festivals, etc.
Meanwhile, the East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has also prohibited illegal killing of fishes at Umsong river (Shka Umsi to Shka Umsong) and adjoining areas by use of poisonous chemicals and explosive substances.
