SHILLONG: The Supreme Court will hear the case pertaining the traditional heads of the Khasi and Jaintia region on October 26.

It may be mentioned that the apex court on Tuesday directed the High Court to ‘dispose off’ the issue related to the traditional heads of the Khasi and Jaintia region within a period of four weeks following petition filed by four individuals from the State requesting the Supreme Court to stay the order of the Single Bench of the Meghalaya High Court issued on December 10, 2014.

The lawyers of the petitioners will bring to the notice of apex court the steps taken by the Meghalaya High Court and its orders. There has been a hue and cry in the state particularly in Khasi and Jaintia region after a single-judge bench of Justice S.R. Sen passed a judgment on December 10 last year de-recognising the powers of rangbah shnong (headmen).
