Nongmynsong housing project

SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has said that the State Government would try its best to ensure that the low cost housing units at Nongmynsong are completed within the scheduled deadline of March, 2016.
“I am happy with the progress of the construction of the remaining housing units. We would try our best to complete the project within the deadline,” Lyngdoh said here on Monday.
The much-delayed housing project, which was initiated way back in September 2008, was taken up by the State Government under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
Out of the 600 housing units at Nongmynsong, only 96 have been completed. The 96 dwelling units were inaugurated by the Urban Affairs Minister on December 7, 2012 and 64 BPL families from Nongmynsong and 32 from Pynthorbah were allotted the houses.
Stating that the project has already seen delays due to several factors, Lyngdoh asserted that there is no scope for further delay.
After the termination of the contract with the Hindustan Prefab Limited (HPL), the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has been tasked with the job to complete the construction of the abandoned housing project.
Earlier, the state government had terminated the contract with HPL following the company’s failure to comply with the terms and conditions laid for the project.
