TURA: The CEO of Tura Municipal Board, Zenithsky J Sangma has rubbished the recent allegations leveled against him by South Tura MLA, John Leslee K Sangma.
“The South Tura MLA’s allegations against me, the State Government and Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma are completely baseless, concocted and politically motivated.
“It is also completely wrong to presume that I am working on the direction of the Chief Minister,” he said in a statement issued on Friday evening.
The CEO said that he had acted on specific written direction from the Deputy Commissioner to issue show cause notice to all the shopkeepers, traders and others concerned and subsequently to direct them to file affidavits as to why they failed to open their businesses on August 14 and 15, the days when the alleged bandh call was given by the GNLA.
Sangma claimed that the MLA was trying to play petty politics over the issue of show cause notice and the filing of affidavits by the traders.
“His unnecessary interference in HC matters and instigation of the traders not to file affidavit amounted to contempt of Court while his alleged attempt to prevent a TMB authority from carrying out a HC order on the direction of the DC amounted to ‘obstructing a public servant in discharge of his public functions’ as provided under section 186 of the IPC,” Sangma said.
Further, reminding that a complaint has been lodged against him in connection with his interference of the HC order, Sangma cautioned the MLA that his actions would land him in trouble if he goes to the High Court to challenge his official action as per its order.
It may be mentioned that John Leslee K Sangma had accused the Congress government in the state of deliberately targeting the traders of Tura by allowing the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Municipal Board to harass the business community with a threat to haul them up for contempt of court unless they filed affidavits giving reason for closure of shops during a two-day GNLA strike in August this year
