Mukul appeals Govt officials to serve people with compassion

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has appealed government officials to desist from practices that deter the spirit of transparency in governance and serve the people with love and compassion.
Addressing a gathering of officials on the occasion of the Vigilance Awareness Week at the Main Secretariat on Wednesday, the chief minister reminded the government officials of their commitment to follow certain rules and guidelines which ensures inclusiveness, accountability and transparency.
He stressed on the need for all government officials to remain acquainted with the parameters that ensure a positive perception in the approach of serving the people.
He said that as agents of the institution of the government that create visibility of the various developmental programmes; it is the bounden duty of everyone to ensure that the amount earmarked for development is spent in the manner in which it is conceptualized so as to make a difference in the lives of the people.
The chief minister later administered the pledge to all gathered to continuously strive to bring about integrity and transparency working unstintingly to eradicate poverty and doing one’s duty conscientiously without fear or favour in providing value based service to the people.
He said that the theme of Vigilance Awareness Week, ‘Preventive Vigilance’ will look at preventive measures in sync with the objective of serving the people with complete transparency and accountability.
According to the chief minister, sensitizing the government employees who are associated in the matter of governance especially in the implementation of various government programmes and their effective delivery system which are conceptualized and designed to benefit the community and society is very crucial.
Deputy Chief Minister R.C. Laloo, Social Welfare Minister Deborah Marak and others attended the function.
