UDP supporters burn copies of Grassroot Governance Bill

SHILLONG: Several copies of the Meghalaya Grassroot Governance Bill, proposed by the  government to empower traditional institutions, were burned at the venue of the UDP’s poll rally for the Nov 21 Nongstoin by-poll on Monday.
The UDP has fielded Mosklander Marngar to contest the Nongstoin by-poll.
According to a statement issued by the party, working president of the party BM Lanong, who was present during the campaign on Monday, highlighted the futility of the proposed Bill and after due deliberation and with the consent of the public, “26 individuals took part in burning the copy of the 26 page document as a sign of protest and non- acceptance of the government ‘s  design”.
UDP legislators Metbah Lyngdoh and Brolding Nongseij were also present during the campaign for the party candidate.
CPI supports HSPDP : The local unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) in its meeting held on Monday at Nongstoin extended support to the HSPDP candidate Dios Jyndiang.
The meeting also attended by the state leaders of CPI asked the CPI members to work for HSPDP candidate who in turn assured that he would take issues concerning commoners if elected to the Assembly.
