My son was not a southpaw, says P J Marbaniang’s mother
SHILLONG: The mother of late police officer P J Marbaniang on Wednesday filed a petition before the District and Sessions Judge, Nongpoh C. Dkhar seeking a fresh probe by an Independent agency into the mysterious death of her son.
Earlier, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had filed the chargesheet before the Nongpoh court with a conclusion that Marbaniang, who was the officer in charge of Patharkhmah police outpost, committed suicide under pressure following the detention of 32 trucks which were illegally transporting coal.
However, pointing out the inappropriate lapses in the investigation, the mother said in her petition that she was not satisfied with the investigation by SIT as it was not a suicide case.
The mother said that her son was not a left-handed person while the FIR filed by the police on January 27 had stated that the gun was found in his left hand
The mother in the petition further pointed out that no police personnel was punished for lapses in the investigation including disappearance of the clothes of deceased and also for not taking his hand wash. Moreover, the doctor from Patharkhmah still stands by her earlier statement that the entry wound was from the back of the head, the petitioner said.
The petitioner also said that though Inspector SS Umdor was not endorsed to collect evidence on January 25, he disturbed the crime scene and illegally collected evidence as there was no order of endorsement.
The mother also said that Marbaniang was bound by duty as the officer in charge of Patharkhmah police outpost and it is unimaginable that people from outside can influence him to commit suicide.
