SHILLONG: A day after his meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, KHADC Chief Executive Member P.N. Syiem, who is camping in Delhi, met party vice president Rahul Gandhi along with AICC general secretary V. Narayanasamy on Thursday and discussed about lack of consultations by the chief minister while framing the dual post Bill, which according to Syiem, resulted in the present division within the Congress.
Speaking over phone from Delhi, Syiem said he had apprised the AICC leadership regarding the attempt of the government to weaken the district council and also about the drawbacks of the hurriedly passed dual post Bill.
Syiem said he had conveyed to the Congress vice president that the issue should have been decided by the High Court and there was no need for the government to come up with the dual post Bill.
Syiem, however, did not divulge the outcome of his meetings with either the AICC president or the vice president.
“My duty was to apprise the central leaders about the political situation and the ball now is in the court of AICC,” Syiem said.
It is learnt that Chief Minister Mukul Sangma may leave for Delhi either on Friday or Saturday as a meeting has been convened by Sonia Gandhi inviting all the chief ministers of Congress ruled states to discuss the court case related to the National Herald issue.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the AICC leaders will discuss the political situation and issues related to dual post Bill with the chief minister, sources said.
