SHILLONG: Taking a dig at the KHADC for coming up with a Village Administration Bill with those provisions which come into conflict with the laws passed by Parliament, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has made it clear that government cannot put pressure on the Governor to pass the Bill.
Speaking to media persons after a meeting with the members of several traditional  institutions here   on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said that the  matter pertaining to amendments of  VAB was discussed  at length with the KHADC members and they  were told of the provisions which would come into conflict with  the laws passed by parliament.
“If the amendment was done accordingly the fate of the KHADC’s VAB would have been same like the VAB passed by JHADC,” Sangma Said.
Speaking on the present status of the VAB, the Chief Minister said that the Governor is the constitutional authority and he had forwarded the Bill to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for its observation before giving his assent.
The state government cannot interfere as far as the decision of the Governor is concerned, he said.
