CM’s vehicle accident case

SHILLONG: The UDP Youth Wing has attacked the government against the one sided action taken  against the driver for the February 11 road mishap involving Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s official vehicle, by booking the driver under 307 IPC (attempt to murder).
“The statement of the witness Disparsing Rani, an RTI activist, at Lumdiengjri PS is clear enough to indicate the attitude of the government in suppressing the weak and pleasing the mighty,” UDP Youth Wing general secretary Hamlet Dohling said in a statement on Tuesday.
“The term ‘accident’ has been explained as ‘an accident that happens when a vehicle hits a person, an object, or another vehicle, causing injury or damage’, and this is a regular occurrence in the entire State. Is the government contemplating to book all such cases under Section 307? If not, why this exception?” the UDP asked.
The party’s youth wing condemned the uncalled for attitude of the authorities, which according to the party, appears to suggest that the law is not equal for all.
KSU asks CM to ‘pardon’ driver
The Khasi Students’ Union, while expressing its anguish at the incident on February 11, said it is disappointing that the security officer to the CM wasted no time in implicating the driver in an attempt to murder case by booking him under Section 307 IPC.
The KSU appealed to the chief minister, who, they observed “had been maintaining silence over the issue” to come forward and execute his authority as the chief minister of the people of Meghalaya irrespective of their distinctions to kindly ease the case against the said driver by pardoning him and thereby giving relief to his family.
Stating that the driver was the sole bread winner of his family, the KSU appealed to the chief minister to break the deadlock once and for all by condoning the said driver.
