SHILLONG: Grade III and Grade IV ad hoc and officiating employees of the Public Works Department (PWD) in Khasi and Jaintia Hills are all set to stage a sit-in demonstration on March 21 in the city to pressurise the State government to re-instate their services in the department.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, David Rapmai, general secretary of the workers association said the sit-in demonstration is also being organized to protest against their abrupt termination.
Rapmai said they were left with no option as it has been more than two months that they have become unemployed and their family and children were facing acute crisis.
According to Rapmai, the affected employees had tried several times to meet higher authorities of the department including PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to apprise them of their problems but to no avail.
