SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Indigenous Youth Front (MIYF) expressed surprise over chief minister Mukul Sangma’s comments to form a “Consultative Committee” of all the political parties of both Assam and Meghalaya in the recently concluded Assembly session.
The association is shocked with the statement made by the chief minister which indicated that the state Government is for dialogue process to solve the long pending border issue with Assam, a statement issued by the association said.
According to the organization, talks with the neighbouring state will be futile as the experiences over the years have witnessed that Assam indulges in talks at the same time violates by encroaching Meghalaya’s territories and harassing the people.
The association stated that it cannot accept dialogue and instead the government should apply a technique to safeguard its territory.
In connection with the border issue, the association will meet the chief minister to come out with a proper solution.
Alleging that the people traveling to and fro the Jorabad-Khanapara portion of the       NH 40 are facing harassment by the Assam Police, the association questioned whether the Assam State is superior to Meghalaya as they claimed that the State’s authority acts just as a mere spectator instead of dealing with harassment of its own people.
