SHILLONG: Acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ricky Nelson Syiem, has announced that he would take action against shopkeepers at Iewduh (Bara Bazaar) who have encroached upon the pedestrian space by laying out their wares outside their shop and have given them one month time to clear the pedestrian space.
Syiem said he has collected the names and numbers of the shops at Iewduh from the Hima Mylliem Police enforcement on Friday, in a bid to keep the traditional market clean and to provide for congestion free movement of pedestrians.
Speaking on the issue of some      non tribals making the market place their residence, Syiem said he was awaiting the report from the Officer In charge of Thana Syiem and surprise checking will be conducted to confirm the matter.
“We have found several anomalies in the administration of the previous Executive Dorbar under Latho Manik Syiem as there are many documents that do not reveal clear records. There are three cars of the Hima that are without insurance, even the tax was not paid which has now accumulated to Rs.1.7 lakh,” Myntri Nongkhlaw said.
