SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) youth wing has condemned Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s apathy towards the HNLC’s proposal for peace talks.
In a statement to the press on Thursday, KHNAM youth wing president Thomas Passah criticized the chief minister for snubbing the peace talk offer by the banned outfit.
Passah stated that the cabinet ministers should not remain silent but spearhead the challenge of bringing the militants to the negotiations table to usher in peace in the State.
Alleging partiality since the chief minister has called Garo militants for talks but ignored HNLC, Passah said, “His lackadaisical attitude is similar to the character of a dictator.”
The youth wing urged the State government and the representatives to take a positive step and call the HNLC for talks.
They claimed that the chief minister had contradicted his own statement given in February that peace talks is mandatory and names of interlocutors were proposed and sent to the Central government.
KHNAM further pointed out that Home Minister Roshan Warjri had also said that the names of two interlocutors were forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
