Anganwadi workers to avail honorarium soon: Deborah

SHILLONG: With the Anganwadi workers and helpers set to go on an indefinite cease work from July 20 demanding pending honorarium, Social Welfare Minister Deborah Marak on Tuesday said that Rs 1.36 crore (Rs 1,36,46,100)has been sanctioned for payment.
The Minister held a departmental meeting with the officials on Tuesday to discuss the status of the disbursement of honorarium to the Anganwadi workers and helpers.
“While Rs 1,36,46,100 is with the Treasury, another Rs 16,63,66,005 (Rs 5,28,35,279 as salaries in the project offices and Rs 11,35,30,276 for payment to Anganwadi workers and helpers) is pending with Planning and Finance departments,” Marak said.
Earlier, the Anganwadi workers and helpers of the State under the banner All Meghalaya Anganwadi Workers & Helpers Union (AMAWHU) had announced the indefinite cease work from July 20 in protest against non-payment of their honorarium for several months as there was no follow up action from the government after the leaders of the AMAWHU had met the Director of Social Welfare on June29.
