SHILLONG: The 7.997-km Jowai bypass is 80 per cent complete and is likely be ready by December, said West Jaintia Hills DC Arunkumar Kembhavi on Tuesday.
The Rs 40-crore project under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in North East (SARDP-NE) includes a 70-m bridge. The road will stretch from Thadlaskien junction to 7th Mile on the outskirts of Jowai town.
The contractor, Dhar Construction Company, informed that 6 km of the road has already been blacktopped and the remaining work will be over in 15 days if there is no rain.
With the completion of the road, people travelling to Ladrymbai and other areas need not enter Jowai town since the bypass, which starts at 54 km of the NH-44, will end at 69 km of the highway and people can avoid travelling 7 km extra.
