Assam lit meet on Hazarika’s death anniv

SHILLONG: The Assam Sahitya Sabha, with an aim to promote the language, literature and the culture of the State, organised a literary cultural meet at University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya, on Saturday.
Speakers at the Sahitya Sabha, which was founded in 1917, were of the view that cultural consciousness in students would create a bonding. Dhurba Jyoti Borah, President of the Sabha, asserted that the organisation had been working “to create a sense of belonging amongst the people of this region irrespective of their ethnic origin, religion, human race”.
Another speaker, Parmananda Rajbanshi, emphasised on the need of for Barak Valley as part of the Sahitya Sabha. He also reminded the audience at the meet, organised on the occasion of the death anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, about the Sahitya Sabha’s contribution to the establishment of Guwahati University that ushered in economic and social development in the region.
