Foundation for border market laid in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: KHADC chief executive member, P.N Syiem, on Wednesday laid the foundation for a border market at Pamsohbar under Hima Mylliem in Ri Bhoi district.
The first phase of the project was sanctioned by Rona Khymdeit under the MDC scheme at an estimated amount of Rs 2 lakh under the 13th Finance Commission.
Cyprian Nongrum, Chairman of the market committee, said the market will promote organic vegetables and hoped that this market will soon gain popularity not just in the border areas but also in the district and the State as a whole.
Addressing the gathering at the function, P.N Syiem lauded the initiative taken by the local MDC and the headmen of various villages for their co-operation in opening the border market, “which will boost the socio-economic conditions of the people residing in the areas as well as help them market local produces”.
“As the areas are yet to see development, the local people need to work hand-in-hand with the market committee for the smooth progress of the market, which will eventually bring forward changes and improve the standard of living of the people in these border areas,” Syiem said.
Among the dignitaries present at the function were Rona Khymdeit, EM in charge Labour Donkupar Sumer, EM in charge Market Hadrian Lyngdoh and Syiem of Hima Mylliem Ricky Nelson Syiem.
