EKH village wants to revive trade with Bangladesh

SHILLONG: The chief of the Hima Bhowal Pa’iem, K.N Syiem, along with secretary Pynshai Risaw met the officials of the National Board of Revenue of Bangladesh recently over restoring trade through the Balat-Dangar Land Custom Station in East Khasi hill and Dolura Land Custom Station situated in the neighbouring country.
The chief recalled that the land custom stations were functional from 1984 to 1999 and trading between  the two countries was smooth and that was a blessing for Mawsynram. However, after 1999, trade was ceased as the Dolura Land Custom Station in Bangladesh was defunct. Balat-Dangar is still operating. He met NBR members, chairman Md Nojibur Rahman and the DCs of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts. The officials have assured all help to restore trade relations and said they would inform the Bangladesh Ministry of Landport and expedite the work by next year.
