SHILLONG: Two cabinet ministers of the Congress-led MUA-II coalition have different views on how they have to treat 2017, a crucial year ahead of the Assembly polls of 2018.
Social Welfare Minister Deborah Marak said she would follow up on the schemes which have already been sanctioned instead of launching new programmes in 2017.
When asked about the plan for 2017, Marak said, “I have to first of all see the status of the schemes which have already been launched. The follow-up of the pending schemes is the need of the hour so that these schemes reach the target,” Marak said.
Marak also asserted that she would not be launching any new scheme just to appease people ahead of the elections.
On the other hand, Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh said a lot of new initiatives have been lined up for the people of Sohiong in 2017.
“This month, I am planning to set up a super market in my constituency and February will see the inauguration of a bridge that will reduce the distance from Shillong to Sohiong,” Lyngdoh said.
The Home Minister said he will also launch other programmes for the uplift of the people of his constituency.
