SHILLONG: Police effected one more arrest in the rape of the 14-year-old Ichamati girl.
Police said that one Kentely Tangsang (66) was arrested for raping the girl on two occasions in the house of Tarisha Mary Kharbamon at Demthring, a friend of Mamoni Parveen.
With this, the number of persons arrested in connection with the sex racket case rose to nine.
Both Mamoni and Mary were earlier arrested by the police and Tangsang is known to Mamoni.
A case was registered against Tangsang at Madanrting police station, City (SP) Vivek Syiem told reporters here on Tuesday.
In the FIR filed recently, the Chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights said that a statement of the victim girl before the Child Welfare Committee on January 3 revealed that an elderly Khasi man from Dawki had sexually exploited the victim in Mamoni’s house and in the house of Mary at Demthring on two occasions.
Tangsang hails from Wahkdait village under Pynursla in East Khasi Hills.
However, Wahkdait is adjacent to Dawki.
