SHILLONG: After Marvelene’s Inn and a guest house at Motinagar in city where the 14-year-old girl was raped, the government-owned Orchid Lake Resort in Umiam is also under scanner in connection with the case.
The minor girl was taken to a few places in Ri Bhoi by the district police and she identified Orchid Lake Resort where she was raped by Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang.
Earlier, the girl, while recording her statement before the magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC, had said Dorphang raped her twice, once in a guest house at Motinagar and the second time in Ri Bhoi.
Ri Bhoi police said the girl was taken to Orchid Lake Resort and police are still investigating the incident. They are also waiting for the girl to take them to any new place.
Orchid Lake Resort, run by the Tourism Department, is housed in the Umiam Water Sports Complex on the banks of the Umiam Lake in Ri Bhoi.
A former militant, Dorphang, who became MLA in 2013, was hiding since the police had slammed Section 366 (A) of the IPC, Section 3 (a)/4 of the POCSO Act and Section 5 of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act against him. A Shillong court had issued a non-bailable warrant against him last week.
