State youths participate in 17th National Jamboree

Shillong: The Meghalaya Contingent of 115 numbers of Scouts and Guides, Unit Leaders, staff and Commissioners participated in the 17th National Jamboree that was held at Mysuru, Karnataka from December 29 to January 5.
The Jamboree was inaugurated by President  Pranab Mukherjee on December 29 in presence of 30,000 participants and dignitaries including the Chief Ministers and his Cabinet colleagues, Members of the Parliament, the president of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Anil Kumar Jain and Chief National Commissioner, B. I. Nagrale, IAS Retd, who escorted the President.
The Jamboree was hosted by the Karnataka Bharat Scouts and Guides and supported and sponsored by the state government who also sanctioned an amount of 12 crores for the event along with a huge pool of Human Resources including 2500 police personnel for security, a fully manned makeshift camp hospital, a host of janitors for cleanliness of the camp and others.
Activities included regular inter-state competitions like march past, colour party, camp craft, state gate, food plaza and other knowledge and fun-based activities like Global Development Village focusing on ‘Green Initiatives’, Global Flagship Activities of WOSM and WAGGGS, Adventure and cultural activities and host State initiated activities.
As many as 28000 scouts and guides from all the States and Union Territories including Indian Railways, State Associations of the country and about 2500 delegates from overseas participated in the Grand National Jamboree held after a gap of 6 years.
Others present were the Executive Directors/Asia Pacific region of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).
