SHILLONG: People of Nongtyngur village near Pynursla have expressed their resentment against BSF patrolling near the Wah Rymben river where women of the area take their bath.

After learning of the incident, a group of journalists, who visited the area on Saturday, also found four BSF personnel on patrolling duty near the riverside.

BSF authorities claimed that their personnel were engaged in patrolling duties near the river to thwart any attempts to smuggle cattle to Bangladesh.

The villagers, however, dismissed the BSF claims saying the area near the riverside had never been used by anyone for smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh.

“We suspect that BSF personnel engage in patrolling duties near the river to watch the women of the village who come to the river for bathing,” the villagers alleged.

The villagers, further, claimed that the BSF had never intercepted any cattle smuggler from the area near the river.

“If they are serious about thwarting cattle smuggling attempts they should ask their men to patrol those areas where cattle smuggling is rampant,” the villagers said, adding, “We cannot recall a single instance in the last many years when BSF personnel arrested any smuggler or seized any cattle from the area.”
