SHILLONG: State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh on Monday downplayed the differences between the district committee of BJP and the Laitumkhrah Mandal over the name of KHADC MDC Neil Antonio War as the candidate for Shillong East and said the matter has been settled.
War joined BJP only a few months ago.
Earlier, sources said the Laitumkhrah Mandal of the BJP was   not happy with the district and State leaders suggesting War’s name from Shillong East.
A meeting was held by the BJP Laitumkhrah Mandal on Saturday to discuss the matter and register protest.
However, when contacted, the State BJP president said on Monday that there was a communication gap between the district unit and the Mandal resulting in the problem.
“In the past, I had suggested that there should be a joint meeting by the district and Mandal functionaries, but there were separate meetings and two different reports by them resulting in the confusion,” Lyngdoh said.
He said after meeting both the units, the problem has been solved.
According to Lyngdoh, since War as MDC joined BJP, there was a suggestion that he should apply for party ticket, but ultimately the final decision will be taken by the central leadership.
“It is not the time for calling for tickets as it is too early to go for this exercise before strengthening the party,” Lyngdoh added.
