SHILLONG: The State BJP wants to have only post-poll alliance, said its president Shibun Lyngdoh on Monday, a day after NPP suggested seat adjustment ahead of the 2018 polls.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Monday, Lyngdoh said personally he wants BJP to contest all the 60 seats. “We feel that for the growth of the party, BJP should contest alone in the 2018 polls and alliance comes after the polls,” he said.
According to Lyngdoh, NPP too should contest separately for its growth in the State.
The State BJP leader, however, said that ultimately, the final decision will be taken by the party’s central leadership.
He also said BJP is going ahead with strengthening the party at the grassroots level in all the 60 seats.
On Sunday, NPP legislator James Sangma said the party is even ready for seat adjustments with non-Congress parties in the State to keep the Congress out of power in 2018 polls.
However, the BJP state leadership wants to go alone in next year’s elections despite the party losing all the six seats to KHADC and JHADC in the by polls held in the past.
Like BJP, political parties like UDP and HSPDP are toying with the idea of fighting the elections separately without any pre-poll arrangements.
