Ampati: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma inaugurated two suspension footbridges over River Daru near Ampati on Monday.
Dedicating the footbridges to the people of the area, Sangma said, “There are visible signs of development across the state and this is the reason for the people to have more aspirations and expectations, therefore the government is bound to respond to their needs.”
He, however, said the people too must be willing to take collective responsibility. “Whenever the government is not able to respond to the demands of the people let it be understood that there are constraints.”
The construction of the 110-m suspension footbridge at Anangpara and another 80-m bridge at Menggongpara was sponsored under the Social Infrastructure Development Fund 2012-2013 by the Ministry of DoNER through the Border Area Development department and were completed in a record time of six months.
The construction of these bridges has shortened the distance to the district headquarters by 14 km.
Speaking about the Human Capital Development project being taken up in the state not only for building infrastructure, but also for empowering teachers and children, Sangma stressed on the need to put in place effective system to ensure that schools and colleges are the best.
Among others present at the function were Government Chief Whip W.D Sangma, local MDC of Betasing Nripen Koch, Deputy Commissioner C.V.D Diengdoh and Superintendent of Police Ramesh Singh.
