JOWAI: The All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organization has demanded stern action against private vehicles plying as local taxis in Khliehriat Civil Sub-Division. Most of these vehicles have dark tinted glasses, which is also a cause for concern as these vehicles ferry passengers who can become victims of looting or molestations too, they alleged.

“If the government has taken initiative measures to ban fitting of tinted class in cars, why not the same law be applied to private cars plying as passenger vehicles in the entire of Khliehriat Civil Sub-Division”, the AJYWO stated in a release issued here.

It also also stated that inequality of law enforcement in the state was not a new practice and expressed concerned over such imbalance.

It may be mentioned here that recently a passenger who was supposed to reach a particular destination was kidnapped to a deserted place in a private vehicle plying as taxi and the driver along with this companions looted the man.

It may be mentioned that the concerned NGO has lodged several complaints not only with the State Government but also with the Ministry of Transports, government of India demanding stern action against illegal passengers’ vehicles.

The Shillong Times has copies of these complaints filed before the government and Ministry

Though the state transport department has received strong directives from the Transport Authority of India to look into the matter, this illegal practice is still running in the entire of Khliehriat Sub-Division.
