SHILLONG: The Abattoir’s construction amounting of Rs 7.60 crore in Demthring, West Jaintia Hills District is progressing as the latest monthly report by the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department showed a 75 per cent progress.
The abattoir which is also known as Bi Species Modern Abattoir is a delayed project, according to Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the state Assembly, Chairman Paul Lyngdoh.
Lyngdoh told reporters, “Till December 21, 2016 the progress has been over 75 per cent. Prior to the intervention of the PAC, the contractor has withdrawn the mobilisation amount amounting Rs 1.80 crore in 2001.”
They have summoned the officials of the department directing them to submit a monthly progress report. The latest report on December 21 showed 75 per cent progress, he added.
“Again when we visited in the year 2014, we took some pictures of the construction site which depicted that only a transformer was installed and other wooden structure with an expenditure of about Rs 9.5 lakh from the total withdrawn amount of Rs 1.80 crore,” Lyngoh informed.
The Chairman said that the delay in completion of the project showed that the progress is very less asserting that there was lack of seriousness on the part of the department and the contractor to complete the project. He pointed out that the matter was reported at the CAG report and a delegation of the PAC made a site visit and found that the progress was very slow.
