SHILLONG: Altogether 10 projects at the cost of Rs 468.55 crore have been taken up in the State under the Centre’s rural electrification scheme.
A status report of the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) released on December 31 showed the Centre has already disbursed Rs 406.37 crore and 1,844 of the 1,870 villages have already got electricity.
The scheme is the Power Ministry’s flagship programme that aims to provide 24×7 power supply in rural areas of the country.
The report also said 97 per cent (2,947 of 3,051 villages) of the villages without electricity are receiving power now under intensive electrification project.
According to the report, the scope for electrification of BPL households in Meghalaya is 1,06,093 and so far 1,04,383 households have been lit up.
Besides, new projects of DDUGJY grid worth Rs 261.69 crore have been sanctioned but the projects are yet to be awarded by MePDCL.
Also, Rs 38.89 crore has been sanctioned under the DDUGJY off-grid projects covering 209 villages.
