Arunachal villages get compensation for land taken by Army

Guwahati: About 50 years long wait was over on Thursday for 152 families of Senge, Nyukmadung and Lish villages in Bomdila in Arunachal when they were ceremonially handed out monetary compensation against their land acquired by Indian Army post 1962 war with China .
The families were given compensation worth about Rs 53,92,71,110 in total at a simple ceremony held in Senge village in Bomdila on Thursday.
The representative cheques were handed over by Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, parliamentary secretary, health Phurpa Tsering and West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Dr Sonal Swaroop.
Pema Khandu said the villagers had to wait for about 50 years to get compensation for their land taken over by the Indian Army to set up the post and finally the long overdue payment was possible due to combined effort from Ministry of Defence, Khiren Rijiju and the local MLA.
Each of the families has been granted compensation amount of Rs 42,00,00.
