SHILLONG/TURA: Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) will resort to power cuts from Friday owing to low water levels at the hydro-electric reservoirs of the State.
Power cut in the city will be in four time slots in the morning and evening for different localities. The four slots are from 3am-6am, 6am-9am, 9am-10am and 11pm-12pm.
Most of the areas in the city, like Bishnupur, Rilbong, Laban, Malki, Dhankheti and Barik, will have power cut in the last slot.
MePDCL has said this will continue till it issues a fresh notice.
In Garo Hills too, people have to face power woes from Friday night.
The power cut in the region will be for three hours. The entire West Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills will face power cuts from April 21 midnight to 3am.
Parts of North Garo Hills falling under Bajengdoba sub-station and South Garo Hills areas connected through Dalu sub-station will also be in the above time slot.
The remaining areas of East, North and South Garo Hills will have load shedding from 6am to 9am.
Last year too, the region faced similar crisis before monsoon.
The state, particularly Garo Hills, has received substantial rainfall in the last two months raising the water table and boosting the catchment areas.
However, the hydro-electric reservoirs in Khasi Hills, particularly the Umiam Lake, have not received as much rainfall as in the western part of the State.
