SHILLONG: In yet another incident of crime against women in Garo Hills, three youths abducted a teenage girl in South West Garo Hills and took her to a forest at Kalaipara where they forcibly made her consume alcohol.
The accused were later arrested.
The incident happened on April 23. According to police around 4 pm three persons– Tohurul Sheikh (21), Jaidul Miah (20) and Sapiul Sheikh (21), abducted the girl in a tempo (ML-14-1482) from Balughat and took her to a forest at Kalaipara where they forcibly made her drink alcohol.
However, a passerby saw them and tried to apprehend the men.
But the trio fled leaving behind the girl and the tempo.
South West Garo Hills SP Bobby S.W Momin said all the three were later apprehended from a nearby village in Assam.
He added that as per the FIR, the victim along with her sister and another girl were returning from a fair in Mahendraganj.
When they reached Balughat, the girl was dragged into the tempo by the driver and two others.
The arrested persons have been remanded in three-day police custody.
Crime against women has become common in Garo Hills thanks to the border the State shares with Assam and Bangladesh. But the authorities have failed to control the trend.
