‘NGT rule violators will be dealt with strictly’

SHILLONG: Ri Bhoi police said on Saturday anyone violating the Nation Green Tribunal order will be dealt with strictly.
The police detained two more coal-laden trucks on Saturday for flouting the order to carry not more than 9MT of load.
In the first case, the truck (AS 01 DD 4885) tried to break through police naka to avoid the integrated check post at 13th Mile, Byrnihat.
The vehicle was chased and the driver, identified as Subrata Nath, and the handyman were arrested.
Ri Bhoi SP Ramesh Singh informed that another coal-laden truck (AS 01 EC 1059) tried to pass the integrated check post by showing cement challan. However, DMR officials detected the coal inside the truck.
The driver of the truck, Rajiv Singh, and handyman, Bobydul Rahman, have been arrested.
According to Singh, police will request the court for custody for thorough investigation. “Any racket or dalals involved in siphoning off government revenue will be dealt with as per law,” the SP added.
