JOWAI: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has emphasised on the need for developing infrastructure at the Krang Shuri Falls to attract more tourists.
Addressing a gathering on Saturday, Sangma said, “The potential for tourism here is unique, exclusive and wonderful. Coming to this place, I don’t want to go back and I think every tourist should feel the same.”
The chief minister was on his maiden visit to Krang Shuri Falls in Amlarem. He was accompanied by local MLA Stephanson Mukhim, senior officials of West Jaintia Hills and SP R. Muthu, among others.
Sangma admitted that more is needed to be done to make the place “comfortable for tourists”. Talking about infrastructure, he said more resorts and home-stays should come up near Krang Shuri.
“I have read about this place and seen pictures. But those have never satisfied me as a policymaker. When tourists come, we want to retain them so that they stay longer. I will take up the matter personally and see that more facilities are created,” he added.
The government is providing assistance up to 30 per cent with a limit of Rs 30 lakh to entrepreneurs for creating small eco-resorts. A community project will also be encouraged.
The chief minister asked the head of the Buam clan, who own the Krang Shuri Falls, and also the Amlarem SDO to prepare a proposal within a month.
