‘Multi-mode connectivity will boost tourism in State’

JOWAI: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said multi-mode connectivity will boost tourism industry in the State.
Sangma, while addressing the media during his recent visit to Krang Shuri Falls, stressed on the need to develop road, railway and air connectivity.
About air connectivity, the chief minister said the Government has overcome the land hurdle for expansion of the Umroi airport as land owners have come to an agreement.
On the railways, Sangma said civil society organisations will be engaged to allay fears of influx.
“We hope that people will be receptive to the idea of having railway connectivity till Shillong and beyond, which will be utilised for promoting high-end tourism,” he said.
“To boost the tourism industry we also need to create an enabling environment so that our product can attract more tourists,” the chief minister said, adding that 20 per cent of the State’s revenue comprises luxury taxes and 9 per cent service tax.
