TURA: The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council court has given police the green signal to continue investigation into the case of alleged witch hunt in which five persons were murdered in a West Garo Hills village in January 2015.
Ringgat T. Sangma, whose parents were among those who were killed, had been demanding that police reinvestigate the murders. She had petitioned top police officers and senior bureaucrats in Shillong last week with the help of Jaynie Ningring N. Sangma, a social activist.
Meanwhile, a group of women from Mrigre village has filed complaint against Ringgat’s husband and Jaynie.
The police complaint claimed that Ringgat was forcibly taken away by her husband and the social activist and other members of her family are unaware of her whereabouts.
Ringgat and her husband are staying in a house provided by government authorities after a kidnap attempt last week.
Two men from the village had tried to kidnap Ringgat from her husband’s village. The attempt was thwarted and the two men were arrested.
Police had arrested four persons, including village chief Lind B. Marak, after the earlier investigation. Later, they were released on bail. Forty villagers were accused in the case.
