SHILLONG: Unfazed by the change in the political situation in the country and the North East, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president D.D Lapang said on Wednesday the Congress will come back to power in the State.
When asked whether the Congress will be able to form the Government even if it emerges as the single largest party like in the case of Manipur and Goa, Lapang said, “That wrong will never come to Meghalaya, because we know how to hit and when to hit.”
Lapang was addressing a news conference at his official residence here on Wednesday.
The veteran Congress leader also downplayed the impact of BJP rule at the Centre and other neighbouring states like Manipur and Assam.
“The Congress will be back to the government in our State,” he said.
Reiterating that BJP is not at all a threat to the Congress in the State, the former chief minister said, “Even if BJP tries to have a grand alliance with other political parties in the State it will take a long time for the BJP to influence voters.”
To a question on heavy anti-incumbency against the Congress led Government in the State, Lapang said, “Anti-incumbency is not only in Meghalaya but it is in fact everywhere.”
He reiterated that despite all odds, the Congress will emerge as the single largest party and form the government.
He also downplayed the emergence of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) saying mushrooming of political parties will only help the Congress. “More the merrier as it will be finally beneficial to us,” Lapang said.
